Is a route sheet still mandatory if you only drive via Uber, Bolt or Heetch?
Do you only drive via Uber, Bolt or Heetch in Flanders? Learn why a route sheet remains mandatory and when an extra app may be needed.
Yes. Even if you carry out your entire service exclusively via Uber, Bolt or Heetch, as a driver of a licensed street taxi in Flanders you must be able to present a route sheet. Working only via platforms does not create an exemption.
That raises a fair question: your trips are already in the app. Why do you still need a route sheet? The answer lies in the difference between the information a platform shows and the document you must be able to present during an inspection.
A trip overview is not automatically a route sheet
In a platform app you can see, for example, which trips you completed and what you earned. That overview has a practical purpose, but it is not automatically a route sheet under Flemish rules.
The route sheet describes your duty as a driver. Article 34 of the Flemish operating decree sets out which data belong there, including the driver, the vehicle, the start and end of the duty and the trips carried out. The system must be able to generate a copy. See the legal basis in articles 33 and 34.
The right inspection question is therefore: can I actually present a route sheet with my current solution? Being able only to show an active Uber, Bolt or Heetch account does not answer that question.
Do you need a second app for that?
In the written clarification TaxiGer received, it is indicated that drivers who work exclusively via platforms will in most cases need an additional app for their route sheet.
The practical choice depends on what your existing system can do. Ask your provider where you open the route sheet and how you can show it during your duty. If that option is missing, you need an additional solution.
That does not mean every driver must use two phones or a specific software brand. It is about the route sheet that must be available.
Example: a full duty via two platforms
Suppose you carry out trips via Uber in the morning and via Bolt in the afternoon. You do not pick up customers from the street and do not use a taxi rank.
Even in that situation the route sheet remains mandatory. The two platforms are your booking channels; they are not in themselves an exception to the document obligation.
Discuss with your software provider how your full duty is recorded when you use different platforms. Base that on the capabilities the software actually offers.
What can you check today?
Before your next duty, open the solution you use to manage your route sheet. Find where you can view the ongoing duty and generate a copy. That way you discover in advance whether anything is still missing.
That also makes the difference between knowing your trips are registered somewhere and being able to show the right document yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Does this also apply if I never pick up customers on the street?
Yes. The clarification specifically concerns a licensed street taxi that works exclusively via digital platforms.
Does a transport document replace my route sheet?
No. The transport document relates to the trip for the customer. The route sheet remains a separate obligation.
